Nordell
Case Study

About

Nordell is one of the UK’s leading independent companies for plastic injection moulding and manufacturing, and provides services such as ultrasonic welding, product assembly, and testing.

Brief

Nordell wanted to respond more effectively to rising customer demand during a successful and ongoing stage of rapid growth. Added to this, packaging storage space was at a premium, and so a swift turnaround on its bespoke packaging was a must.

Findings

A meeting was arranged, and the existing packaging was found to be very high quality and fit for purpose. Nordell’s expansion had brought with it opportunities to save on packaging costs, and Actionpoint suggested some easy-to-implement changes to capitalise on these.

New blends of materials were also recommended, which had come to market in recent years, along with design modifications to speed up packing time and improve productivity.

Solutions

Packaging samples were collected for independent testing to confirm the specification of the materials. Actionpoint identified alternative materials and created packaging designs that were faster to pack without compromising on performance. Prototypes were delivered to the Nordell team who trialled the packaging before approving the new design.

A stockholding agreement – with packaging manufactured in bulk and stored at a secure site – gave Nordell peace of mind, knowing that packaging would always be available to fulfil customers’ orders. The company was added to The Actionpoint Portal (TAP) for 24/7 online access to their account. TAP gave Nordell the power to monitor and manage packaging being held in stock, as well as track orders and deliveries. Using TAP, stock could be “called off” for next day delivery whenever needed, and automatically replenished to ensure the business never ran out.
